  • Remember that you are marketing your self, the CV needs to present your best qualities and must detail your relevant skills and competencies.
  • Keep your CV short and to the point.
  • Tailor the CV to suit the requirements of the ad and include achievements, not just duties, because these are what will sell you. Include examples to back up your competency statements.
  • Keep your CV Simple, Structured, Succinct and Significant.
  • Make sure your CV supports the advertised position criteria and the feel of the ad without waffling.
  • Use a sharp cover letter and restrict the CV to two pages. Put your major achievements and accomplishments in the CV, not just tasks and responsibilities.
  • Avoid being repetitive in your CV.
  • Cleary provide contact details for references (Email; Fax numbers; company address)
  • Provide as much information as possible on work experience and education
  • Please make sure your enclosed photo is full length, not a holiday photo

If you are not successful: What to Do?

Rejection is part of the job search process, but there are ways to be more successful as you go along. If you are not successful at one or several stages of the recruitment process, you will need to evaluate and rethink your strategy.

  • Review your CV. Is it up to date?
  • Ask others to give you feedback on it.
  • Ask Empire Consultant to help you with review.

Try not to be too disheartened if you don't get the first, second or third job for which you have been interviewed. Instead of feeling rejected, treat it as a learning curve. Think about things you might like to change next time at the interview.

Be critical of yourself. How are you doing? Where could you improve? What help or advice do you need? Are there gaps in your performance that need filling in? Are they knowledge gaps or skill gaps? Remember: knowledge is attainable, and skills can be developed.
